The Pride Festival on Commonwealth Street and Yoakum Boulevard kicks off a day of festivities. It includes live music, performances on different stages, a food court, retail vendors, booths manned by GLBT organizations and a kids zone. The festival is from 1 - 7 p.m.
The Houston Pride Parade follows at 8:15 p.m. It is the closest thing Houston has to Mardi Gras-style revelry, as 150,000 spectators line the route on Westheimer between Dunlavy and Crocker streets for a nighttime parade that includes lighted floats, marching bands and more than 1,000 participants who throw lots of beads. This year's theme is "Live. Love. Be."
