Prior to its Dec. 3 release, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is hosting a free screening of I Love You Phillip Morris, with actors Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor in the lead roles.
Steve McVicker was a Houston Press reporter who became intrigued with police-officer-turned-con artist Steven Russell and developed a series of stories on Russell’s romance with fellow inmate Phillip Morris in the Texas prison system. After Morris was released, Russell escaped from prison four times in order to be reunited with him. McVicker's stories became the basis of a book and movie.
After the screening, McVicar will join Terry Jennings, the Harris County assistant district attorney who prosecuted the real-life Russell, and Terry Cobbs, a fugitive tracker for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice who was responsible for several of Russell's captures, for a question-and-answer session.
