Houston Heritage Society Luncheon with James A. Baker, III "Forever Young at Heart"

eventdetail

The Heritage Society will celebrate the addition of its 10th historic building – the Baker Family Playhouse – at the annual luncheon. Secretary James A. Baker’s participation is especially fitting given his fond childhood memories of the family playhouse that his grandfather, Captain James A. Baker, built in 1893.

The theme, “Forever Young at Heart,” is symbolic of the importance of children to Houston’s past and future.

The playhouse, a small Greek Revival structure originally constructed at 1104 San Jacinto Street, was moved throughout the city of Houston over its 118 year history and remained in the Baker family for four generations. In December of 2010, the playhouse was moved to Sam Houston Park to spare it from demolition and to give future generations of Houston children the chance to experience it.
