Houston Grand Opera
Rewind to a time of arranged marriages and separation of the classes in which Rigoletto, a respected, clever and a sophisticated steward, serves as jester to the Duke of Mantua. For this, he is also resented among the palace.
Although Rigoletto is committed to the Duke, his true loyalty sits with his daughter, Gilda, who he has managed to hide from the notoriously promiscuous master. When the Duke learns of this news and poses as a young student to seduce Gilda, Rigoletto vows to seek revenge. Eventually his madness leads to an evil plot to murder the Duke. Blinded by love, Gilda stops her father's scheme, which results in a tragic and ironic ending.
The cast includes Ryan McKinny as Rigoletto, Stephen Costello as Duke of Mantua, Elizabeth Zharoff as Gilda, Robert Pomakov as Count Monterone and Dmitry Belosselskiy as Sparafucile.
