Houston Grand Opera presents Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor

eventdetail
Creative design by Pattima Singhalaka

A new production in collaboration with Opera Australia and Teatro La Fenice, Venice, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor is a tragic love story based loosely on Sir Walter Scott's historical novel The Bride of Lammermoor. Caught in between family, political and religious feuds, the emotionally fragile and charged Lucia is forced to marry a powerful man and forget her love of another.

Albina Shagimuratova, a soprano with sublime artistic abilities, full lyrical voice and commanding interpretation, sings the demanding title role as she returns to the Houston Grand Opera stage. She is joined by Scott Hendricks as Enrico and Dimitri Pittas as Edgardo. Drama Desk and Tony Award-winning director John Doyle (Sweeney Todd – Broadway, 2006) and designer Liz Ascroft create intense drama amid the ever-shifting Scottish landscape in this new Houston production, while Italian conductor Antonino Fogliani makes his HGO debut.
