Houston Friends of Chamber Music Gallery Concert at MFAH: Kostov-Valkov Duo "Viva la Música Española"

Houston Friends of Chamber Music presents a gallery concert at MFAH in conjunction with the exhibition Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado. The Houston-based Kostov-Valkov Duo will perform a program of Spanish-inspired compositions, titled "Viva la Música Española."

The program includes works by Spanish composers as well as pieces by French composers known for their Spanish style. Spanish works include Enrique Granados' Intermezzo from Goyescas, inspired by Goya's paintings; Manuel de Falla's Suite Populaire Espagnole; Gaspar Cassadó's Requiebros, written as a present for legendary cellist Pablo Casals; and Castelnuovo-Tedesco's virtuosic Figaro Fantasy. Major French composers' Spanish-inspired pieces are represented by Debussy's Sonata, Ravel's Habanera and Bizet's Carmen Fantasy, arranged by British composer Buxton Orr.
