The fourth annual sporting clays tournament, auction and dinner benefiting Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy Program will take place at the Greater Houston Gun Club, one of the oldest private shotgun clubs in the country. The event is a, friendly shooting competition coupled with food, beverages and fun to raise awareness of and funds for Backpack Buddy.
Many children who rely on free or reduced price lunches during the school week go home to meager or no meals on weekends. The Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy Program works to fill in the gap. On Fridays, at participating schools and locations, children take home child-friendly, easily consumed and vitamin-fortified food. The food is given to the children discreetly in backpacks to avoid embarrassment to them.
The event also includes a silent auction and a raffle, with items including a Harley Davidson, custom golf cart, Beretta and Blazer shotguns, custom made cowboy boots, and big game hunts.
