The Houston Chamber Choir presents "Christmas at the Villa," featuring Grammy-nominated guitarist and lutenist Richard Savino. The beauty of the Villa de Matel and the sparkle of fresh carols and beloved favorites combine in a way that has made this program a citywide favorite.
The Chapel of the Villa de Matel, built in 1928, is modeled after gorgeous Northern Italian basilicas. When paired with the voices of the Houston Chamber Choir, the ambiance offers a radiant musical experience. The space allows voices to soar and music to flourish throughout its design, making for an incredible venue for Houston Chamber Choir.
Matinee performances will feature the Treble Choir of Houston at Christ Church Cathedral, directed by Marianna Parnas-Simpson, composed of children from the greater Houston community.
Renaissance Christmas music from Spain and Mexico enlivens these concerts. Program highlights include The Rose in the middle of winter in a new setting by Bob Chilcott, Magnificat for double choir by Cristobal de Belsayaga and classics such as O Holy Night by Adolphe Adam.
