Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals hosts "Storytellers: An Evening with Houston History"

The event's purpose is to bring to light the rich history of African-Americans in the Greater Houston Area. Back in the day, we used to seek out elders for culture, information and lineage. The truth that came from their mouths seemed like gigantic tales of wisdom, incomprehensible accounts of triumph over injustice and beating the odds. Sadly, somewhere along the way we have lost touch. In order to know where we as a people are going, we must reach back to see how far we have come.

Guests will listen to stories about the history of African-Americans in Houston's Freedman's Town and the preservation of Historically Black High Schools.
