Dr. Jon C. Lohse will present a program entitled “Bison Studies” highlighting the presence of bison in parts of Texas in prehistoric times. As a top-ranked food resource, bison would have been very important for hunter-gatherers across the area. Recent studies have produced a fairly precise and reliable chronology for this animal. This study has involved directly dating bison remains, rather than dating them through their association with other materials.  So far about 65 samples have been dated.
