Justin Parkoff and Jessica Stika, archeological conservators at the Texas A & M University Conservation Research Lab, will present the program on the conservation of the Civil War gunboat USS Westfield that was sunk during the Battle of Galveston in 1863. They will review artifacts that have been recovered from the wreck, including the huge 12-foot-long, 10,000-pound Dahlgren cannon that recently went on display at the Texas City Museum.
