Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest ever recorded storm to make landfall, hit the Philippines on Nov. 2. Entire towns and communities have been wiped out, millions affected with untold numbers left homeless. The Greater Houston area is home to more than 30,000 Filipinos and Filipino-Americans, many of whom have direct ties to the calamity-stricken provinces of Leyte and Samar.
To help the people affected by the typhoon, several Houston natives, artists and entrepreneurs created the Hope for Haiyan charity concert. Hope for Haiyan features alumni from American Idol (Andrew Garcia), America's Best Dance Crew (Brian Puspos and Ian Eastwood), YouTube stars (Jeremy Passion) and independent artists that have collectively toured more than 40 countries.
The event begins at 3 p.m. with a meet and greet, as well as food trucks and vendors serving food until 6 p.m. The family-friendly concert and performance will be from 6-8 p.m.
