Hooks-Epstein Galleries presents "I Spot Eye Spots," featuring new drawings by Houston-based artist, Mark Greenwalt.
Distinguished for his drawings of surreal, nondeterministic figures, Greenwalt creates humanoid forms of sculptural volume that defy the canons of proportion, challenge the underlying historic ideals of beauty, and question societal notions about depictions of monstrousness. In his most recent body of work, Greenwalt draws on surfaces charged with evolutionary potential, where his anomalous figures emerge as pictorial constructs that are free from contextual constraints. These drawings serve as objects of meditation about the nature of suffering and the enduring human spirit.
The exhibition will continue through February 16.
