Handel in the Gardens: A Preview of Ars Lyrica's Acis and Galatea

eventdetail
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

The Diana Garden at Bayou Bend serves as the lush backdrop for a 45-minute preview of Handel's pastoral opera Acis and Galatea, presented in a new production by the Grammy-nominated Houston ensemble Ars Lyrica. Light refreshments will be provided. Bring your own chair or blanket.

The performance is directed by Tara Faircloth and features a cast including soprano Blair Doerge, countertenor Ryland Angel, tenor Derek Chester, baritone Michael Kelly and bass-baritone Timothy Jones. Acis and Galatea is one of the most enduring and popular works by German-born British Baroque composer George Frideric Handel. The story concerns the story of Acis and Galatea from Greek mythology, made popular by Ovid's Metamorphoses.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the 5:45 p.m. concert. Rain date is March 11 at 7 p.m. No outside food or drink is permitted. After the performance, the first floor of the mansion will be open until 7:30 p.m.
