H-Town Multicultural Film Festival: Elena

eventdetail

The H-Town Multicultural Film Festival (HTMFF) celebrates Houston's diversity through the power of cinema. 14 Pews will screen 19 features and short films over the course of three days. HTMFF is curated by two programmers: Bears Fonte, director of programming at the Austin Film Festival, as the guest curator for the shorts program; and Cressandra Thibodeaux, executive director of 14 Pews, who programmed the feature films.

Elena follows a young Brazilian woman who travels to New York with the same dream as her mother: To become a movie actress. She leaves behind her childhood spent in hiding during the years of the military dictatorship. She also leaves Petra, her seven year old sister. Two decades later, Petra also becomes an actress and goes to New York in search of Elena. She only has a few clues about her: Home movies, newspaper clippings, a diary and letters.

The screening will be followed by appetizers and drinks donated by Saint Arnold Brewing Co. and Jenni's Noodle House for film festival badge holders.
