This dramatic feature exposes the troubled relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his eldest son, Harilal. The film starts with a bedraggled Harilal Gandhi (Akshaye Khanna) brought to a hospital in a semi-conscious state. Taken for a beggar, his assertion that he is Gandhi's son seems improbable. The film traces back Harilal's life and examines Gandhi's family life, the roots of his activism and his personal beliefs as they affected Harilal and the rest of the family.
