The Gallery Sonja Roesch will present a special exhibition of paintings by the historically significant late German painter Raimund Girke (1930–2002) titled Investigating White.
Girke has been at the forefront of Analytical Painting. In the late 1950s Girke belonged to the generation of young European artists that overcame the subjectivism of Abstract Expressionism and searched for new objective reductive expressions. In Girke’s paintings white is not a static thing; it is constantly moving and changing. White is as elusive as it is beautiful. White is emptiness, non-material, quietness, stillness. It is subject and spirit of the artist’s paintings.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through May 28.
