Always Plus One Day is a multimedia exhibition by Houston based artist Melinda Laszczynski. An MFA candidate in painting and drawing at the University of Houston, Laszczynski describes her collage and sculpture as being inventive and poetic. Using a wide-range of both traditional and non-traditional materials —including house paint, tape and spray paint, photographs and discarded construction materials that are combined with paint skins, wax and glitter — Laszczynski creates dynamic visuals based on elaborate personal narratives inspired by everyday encounters.
The exhibition is a poignant tribute to how it feels to depart from a place of safety, comfort and attachment in search of new environments and experiences that are filled with promise and healing. Like disjointed shrouds of memory, Always Plus One Day gives new meaning and purpose to once abandoned and forgotten material.
