FrenetiCore presents The Sacred Harp

eventdetail

The Sacred Harp is the story of a small Southern town in the early 20th-century. At the center of the story is a young couple, deep in love, but with one controversial problem: He is black and she is white. When the townspeople discover the couple's relationship, their reaction sparks revolutionary societal change.

The Sacred Harp is told through contemporary ballet, modern and American folk, historical shape-note singing and narrative film while portraying the journey of Southern society from oppression and prejudice to tolerance and acceptance. As the sacred harp tradition is one of bold, beautiful shape-note singing, the inclusion of live, on-stage music heightens the production quality and will certainly resonate with the audience.

This collaboration between FrenetiCore dancers and shape note singers will appeal to patrons of dance, theater and choral music alike.
