Foundation for Modern Music presents "Music for Peace: Shouts, Cries, Prayers"

eventdetail

The search for peace takes on many forms. A few brave souls protest individually at great risk to themselves for the end of war, oppression, hate and injustice. When voices join they gather strength and become powerful enough to change the course of history. Great art has served as a cry for help or simply of anguish when peace seems unattainable. Others have no choice but to seek peace through a more personal approach. Prayer, meditation and reflection — these internal safe havens may be the only possible ones left for many even today.

"Shouts, Cries, Prayers" is Foundation for Modern Music's latest installment in the Music for Peace at Rothko Chapel. The event showcases music by Andres Gaos, André Previn/Toni Morrison, Dmitri Shostakovich/Alexander Blok and others.

Hosted by Amy Bishop of Classical 91.7, the cast includes Avalon Ensemble members Paul Boyd (piano), Raúl Orlando Edwards (baritone/dancer), Alison Greene (soprano), Anne Leek (oboe), special guests Angela Dampeer (soprano), Julia Fox (soprano), Chris French (cello), Daniel Saenz (cello), Yung-Hsiang Wang (violin) and others.
