The Public Art of the University of Houston System and Mexico-based Cuban-American artist Jorge Pardo will present a “housewarming” event marking the official opening of Folly, an immersive sculpture that blurs the lines between art, architecture and design. Visitors can meet the artist, explore the pavilion-like installation, and enjoy live music, light bites, and refreshments.
From the outside, Folly appears to be a simple building; once inside, visitors are immersed in a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, eclectic patterns and a variety of materials and scales. This work marks the third project in Public Art UHS’s temporary public art program and the second site-specific Grove Commission developed for Wilhelmina’s Grove, a serene on-campus gathering space anchoring the UH Arts District.
Folly will remain on view through 2023. The installation will be open between 9 am and 6 pm daily.
