For this inaugural event, Cuban instructor Wilfredo Guilbiac Rodriguez will lead the Afro-Latin dance workshops while Venezuelan musician Jorge Orta "Cro Cro" leads the music ensemble Jazzismo. DJ Franky will be on hand spinning the latest salsa, timba, merengue, bachata, cubaton and more.
The event features three Afro-Latin dance workshops (1-4 p.m.), a salsa social with live music (9:30 p.m.-2 a.m.), free salsa lessons and a dance show. Guests donning the best red, white and blue attire will be eligible to win prizes. The event is BYOB.
Proceeds benefit the Student Veterans of America program at the University of Houston and the Fourth Annual Foundation for Modern Music's "Salsa y Salud," a citywide outreach show at Miller Outdoor Theatre (Sept. 19).
