Aurora Picture Show and Blaffer Art Museum present a night of culinary and cinematic exploration through the eyes of film icon Les Blank and his landmark 1978 film Always For Pleasure. Presented on 16mm film, this one-hour cinema verite documentary explores the social traditions of Creole life.
And because food, drink and music always go together in Blank's films, there will be red beans 'n rice, po-boys, hurricanes, brews and a special performance by the Zydeco Dots.
This film is an intense insider's portrait of New Orleans' street celebrations and unique cultural gumbo: Second-line parades, Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. It features music from Professor Longhair, the Wild Tchoupitoulas, the Neville Brothers and more. Les Blank is an internationally renowned independent filmmaker whose poetic work offers intimate, idiosyncratic glimpses into the lives, culture and music of passionate people at the periphery of American society.
