Thala is a dance program that showcases a modern depiction of Sri Lanka’s traditional dance forms directed by Channa Wijewardena. Channa-Upuli Performing Arts Foundation has pioneered in bringing Sri Lankan cultural dance along with contemporary expression to the world theatre. Channa specializes in all form of traditional and creative dancing in Sri Lanka, namely “Kandyan, Sabaragamuwa, Low Country” and his own creative contemporary style, which he calls “Body Language,” which is based on “Thribanga”: signifying the three curves of a woman’s body and is a flexible style performed by his graceful young dancers.
This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30 am-1 pm. If tickets remain at 1 pm, the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. No tickets needed for open seating on the hill.
