Dance Source presents Barn Raising

eventdetail

Dance Source Houston is taking over the "barn" — literally. Dance Source is taking over the Barnevelder Theatre in downtown Houston. To celebrate this new transition, Dance Source presents Barn Raising, two performance offerings that will highlight works by Dance Source members and raise funds that directly benefit Barnevelder and Dance Source.

A generous donor has agreed to match dollar for dollar all the funds raised for the event.

Performances on May 22 will include Teresa Chapman, Patricia Davis, Earthen Vessels, Frame Dance Productions, Houston Ballet, the High School for Performing and Visual Arts, Rednerrus Feil, Uptown Dance Company and Vault.

Performances on May 23 will include Ad Deum Dance Company, Frame Dance Productions, Karen Stokes Dance, Reck Dance Projects, a duet from Regifting Lions, Leslie Scates, NobleMotion Dance and Urban Souls Dance Company.

Originally the home and brain-child of Suchu Dance, Barnevelder Theatre has served the Houston contemporary dance community for more than 10 years. It offers rehearsal studio space, theater rental and performance opportunities, all at affordable costs to help keep small and mid-sized dance companies thriving. After running both her dance company and the theater, Suchu Dance's artistic director Jennifer Wood feels it's time to focus solely on the company. She's passing on the Barnevelder reins to Dance Source Houston, a nonprofit service organization dedicated to keeping the Houston dance community a vibrant art center.
