The composer and the piano virtuoso were heroic figures of the Romantic era; Franz Liszt was the rock star of his day, inspiring “Lisztomania” among his adoring fans. Liszt made monumental transcriptions of the symphonies of another Romantic hero, Beethoven.
Russian pianist Yury Martynov is garnering international attention for his recordings of these transcriptions. In his Da Camera debut, Romantic Titans: Beethoven Symphony No. 5 and Liszt, Martynov plays Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage (Troisième année).
