Quatuor Mosaïques, the most prominent period-instrument quartet performing today, makes its first Houston appearance. The quartet performs Haydn's String Quartet No. 68 in D Minor, Op. 103, H. 3, No. 83, Mozart's String Quartet No. 15 in D Minor, K. 421 and Schumann's String Quartet No. 3 in A Major, Op. 41, No. 3.
The ensemble's international reputation precedes them through their highly regarded, award-winning recordings of Haydn. The quartet, made up of leading European musicians based in Austria, has garnered praise for its decision to use gut-stringed instruments that, in combination with its celebrated musicianship, has cultivated the group's unique sound.
This program traces the development of the string quartet from the Viennese classical style to German romanticism.
