Da Camera’s 2011-2012 jazz series kicks off with Poncho Sanchez and Terence Blanchard in Cubano Be! Cubano Bop!
Conga legend and Laredo native Sanchez and trumpet star Blanchard lead a group of 11 musicians in a tribute to the Original Conga King, Chano Pozo, and his co-conspirator in Latin Jazz, Dizzy Gillespie. The project is named for George Russell’s famous composition for the Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra, the two-part Cubano Be, Cubano Bop from 1947. The duo will play Afro-Cuban standards, their own compositions and fresh new collaborations.
