The trailblazing renegades John Adams, Louis Andriessen and Steve Reich changed the course of late 20th century music, each in their own way, allowing the pop world to enter the concert hall. They are now creating works that define their late styles. Concertgoers will be among the first to experience these new pieces when Da Camera presents the Houston premieres of works by three towering figures in contemporary music.
The concert is performed by the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) with conductor Karina Cannellakis in her Houston debut. Steve Reich's Radio Rewrite is based on the Radiohead songs Jigsaw Falling into Place and Everything in Its Right Place. Grawemeyer Award-winning Dutch composer Louis Andriessen is one of the most acclaimed, influential composers of his generation. Andriessen's Life is presented with film by Marijke van Warmerdam. John Adams' Son of Chamber Symphony has been praised for its "madcap wit, infectious rhythmic energy and vitality, and beautifully wrought slow movement" by The Boston Globe.
