Da Camera presents the Diotima Quartet in "Paris-Houston"

eventdetail

The Da Camera at The Menil series concludes when the Paris-based Diotima String Quartet makes its Houston debut in an exciting evening of premieres, featuring two distinguished Houston composers. The French quartet and violist James Dunham give the world premiere of the Da Camera-commissioned string quintet Afterimages by Shepherd School faculty member Richard Lavenda.

The dynamic Trio for violin, clarinet and piano by award-winning composer Pierre Jalbert, commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, receives its first Houston performance. The addition of Janacek's moving String Quartet No. 2 "Intimate Letters" JW 7/13 allows the Diotima Quartet to shine.

Diotima Quartet was awarded first prize at the FNAPEC Competition, Paris in 1999, and the Contemporary Music Prize at the London String Quartet Competition in 2000, and has gone on to a major international recording and performing career.
