This concert celebrates the 50th anniversary of John Coltrane’s legendary album, A Love Supreme. Since 1997, the Grammy-nominated Imani Winds has been carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with dynamic playing, culturally resonant programming and adventurous collaborations. The Quintet, the dynamic Harlem Quartet, and an outstanding jazz trio each perform individually. The concert features the Houston premieres of Chick Corea’s The Adventures of Hippocrates for string quartet and Jason Moran’s Cane for wind quintet. All three ensembles and respected poet A.B. Spellman come together for the Houston premiere of Imani composer-member Jeff Scott’s powerful Passion for Bach and Coltrane for string quartet, wind quintet, jazz trio and narrator, inspired by Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Coltrane’s masterpiece.
