CultuRunners Launch Event at the Rothko Chapel

eventdetail

To mark the United Nation's International Day of Peace, the Rothko Chapel hosts the launch of a three-year tour across the United States, CultuRunners, in partnership with Edge of Arabia and Art Jameel. CultuRunners is an artists' journey and cultural pilgrimage that connects communities in the United States and Middle East, examining the potential of artists' journeys to affect significant social change as well as play an active role in shaping cultural policy.

The evening begins with an inter-generational, cross-cultural discussion celebrating the importance of artists' freedom to work across borders, featuring Palestinian artist Taysir Batniji and Saudi artist Sarah Abu Abdallah, among others.

The panel discussion is followed by a film of a journey into Mecca by Saudi artist and Edge of Arabia co-founder Ahmed Mater, to be projected on the chapel façade. A reception with live music by Syrian oudist Essam Rafea, food and drinks accompanies the film projection.

The evening is supported by Fotofest International and the Arab American Cultural and Community Center of Houston.
