Cool Brains! Inprint Readings for Young People presents an afternoon with beloved children's author Jon Scieszka. He will talk about his work and take questions from the audience. The presentation will be followed by a book sale and signing at which families can visit with the author.
Jon Scieszka, described by The New York Times as "a sort of Dave Eggers for the Lego set — smart, sarcastic, knowing, silly," is the bestselling author of more than 25 books for kids which have sold more than 11 million copies worldwide. Scieszka's major works include the Caldecott Honor Book The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales; Math Curse; the Time Warp Trio series, which was made into a television show; and the Trucktown series. His first picture book, The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs! By A. Wolf, sold three million copies and was translated into 14 languages.
Scieszka is also the founder of Guys Read, which started as a web-based initiative to inspire a passion for reading among young boys. Now Scieszka edits a series of anthologies published as part of the initiative, which includes Guys Read: Funny Business, Guys Read: Thriller, and his latest Guys Read: The Sports Pages. Scieszka has received more than 20 awards for his work and in 2008 was named the first National Ambassador for Young People's Literature by the Library of Congress, an honor established to recognize substantial contributions to children's literature.
