Context presents "The Moscow School"

eventdetail

Russian Romantic master Anton Arensky studied with Rimsky-Korsakov, drank with Tchaikovsky and succeeded Balakirev as director of the Imperial Chapel under Tsar Nicholas II. He also taught at the famed Moscow Conservatory, where his students included Gliere, Rachmaninoff and Scriabin.

Context's season closes with dazzlingly rhapsodic music by these visionary Russians, performed on a 1890 Bluthner piano. The performance features violinists Axel Strauss and Eric Halen, violist Max Mandel, cellist Jean-Michel Fonteneau and pianist Brian Connelly.
