CONTEXT presents Beethoven: Waldstein and Appassionata Piano Sonatas

Beethoven thought that his Waldstein and Appassionata sonatas for solo piano were some of the best he ever wrote. History agrees with him: These famous masterpieces have been studied and worshiped by music-lovers for 200 years. But pianos in Beethoven's time were vastly different from our pianos today. The beautiful range of colors and intimate expression of Beethoven's pianos can reveal his music in fresh and startling ways.

Pianist Brian Connelly will perform on CONTEXT's piano built in 1810 by Michael Rosenberger, one of Vienna's most celebrated piano makers. This rare piano is one of the finest original classical-era concert pianos in the U.S.
