Conference: Share and Teach a Mutual History: the French-German Experience

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Franco-German Treaty of Friendship in 2003, France and Germany decided to write a common history textbook for high school. The textbook gathers the historical and educational history of the two countries to create a common vision of the past and future projects together. 

Conference speakers include Rainer Bendick, German Historian and co-editor of Histoire/Geschichte; Sarah Fishman, history professor, University of Houston; The Honorable Pierre Grandjouan, Consul General of France; The Honorable Roland Herrmann, Consul General of Federal Republic of Germany; Philippe Joutard, French modern history professor in France and former rector; and Michael Ott, Consul for cultural affairs at the Consulate of Germany, Los Angeles.

From 9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., talks will be held at the AWTY International School. From 2 - 5:30 p.m., the conference will continue at Rice University Humanities Building 117, 6100 Main Street.
