The Community Artists' Collective opens its 2015 exhibit year with fiber artist Joan Bristow's Nature in Profusion collection. An opening reception will be held on Feb. 20, 6-9 p.m.
Bristow's Caribbean heritage is evident in the patterns and symbols used in her collection of batik art and dyes on silk and canvas. She incorporates techniques such as direct application of dyes, discharge dyeing, resist dyeing, spraying and stamping, and beading to alter the ground fabric. The fabric pieces are ultimately used to create two-dimensional and sculptural designs.
Bristow will present two Saturday workshops during the exhibition: Feb. 21, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Collective; and Feb. 28, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Palm Center, 5340 Griggs Rd.
The exhibition is on view through April 4.
