It has been 79 years since the Prohibition ended. To celebrate the anniversary of Repeal Day, the restaurant will be transformed to another era as dancers move about, music flows, glassware clinks and everyone honors the tradition and craft of fermenting, distilling, serving and mixing of alcohol.
Chef Randy Rucker, Lucrece Borrego and Eoghan L. Dillman will take over the back of the house while guest bartenders preside as hosts — including CultureMap's Sarah Rufca. On the cocktail menu are the pre-prohibition French 75 and the Manhattan Club as well as post-prohibition favorites, the Bronx Cocktail, the Sidecar and the Last Word Cocktail, which Murray Stenson rediscovered.
The evening will serve as a fundraiser for Stenson, who has served for more than three decades in Seattle's bars and now has a heart condition. Stenson needs funds for his medical expenses and can no longer work. Fifty percent of profits from selected drinks on the menu, as well as all cash donations in the Tips for Murray jars, will benefit to MurrayAid.org.
