Brilliant Lecture Series presents Stephen Hawking

eventdetail

UPDATE: Professor Stephen Hawking's recent hospitalization prevents travel to Houston. However, his lecture for the Brilliant Lecture Series is being filmed in Cambridge, England, and will be presented at Jones Hall as scheduled.

Brilliant Lecture Series hosts the globally-respected physicist, cosmologist and Medal of Freedom recipient, professor Stephen Hawking, who will share a rare glimpse into his life's journey, his challenges and what inspired him to embrace physics and science in spite of his disabilities.

On Dec. 11, 2012, Hawking and a team of seven scientists won prizes from the Fundamental Physics Prize Foundation. Hawking will be joining his fellow scientists on March 20 at CERN to accept the prize that honors the team's leadership efforts in the scientific endeavor that led to the discovery of the Higgs-like particle at the Geneva facility. Hawking, who celebrated his 71st birthday on Jan. 8, is the director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at Cambridge University and author of A Brief History of Time, which was an international bestseller.
