BooTown's puppet show Turtle Turtle reveals the life of a reclusive reptile.
Set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1982, the story begins when a young family brings a new pet turtle into their home. Expectations are high and love is in the terrarium — but it doesn't last long. Days after their pet turtle is introduced to its habitat, it disappears. Turtle was tired. Turtle never wanted to leave the comforts of the pond. Turtle didn't need owners. Turtle needed space. He found it in the attic. High above the heads of his owners/capturers, amongst their forgotten relics — photos, record collections, toys, busted televisions — turtle lived. Turtle explored. Turtle was free again.
But it wasn't meant to last.
They say it was 30 years, but to turtle, it felt like only days. His owners, who finally decide to pilfer through their roof full of memories, rip him from his box and steal down the stairs of the attic, holding him high above their heads and rejoicing in their discovery, celebrating his return to captivity.
Turtle Turtle chronicles turtle's life before and after the recapturing through shadow puppetry.
