BooTown hosts "Neo-Benshi"

eventdetail
BooTown

BooTown newest monthly series, Neo-Benshi, will feature works that utilize the benshi technique made famous in BooTown productions such as Mijo, Hug the World and My Last Action Feeling. In Japan, Benshi performers memorize Western movies and then reinterpret the story for an Eastern audience.

In the past, BooTown artistic directors Emily Hynds and Lindsey Burleson have used the style to present their own interpretations of movies such as Roadhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and My Last Action Hero. For Neo-Benshi, they're calling upon artists, videographers, actors, comedians, bartenders, plumbers, accountants, gamers — anyone — to submit their own Benshi-style shorts.
