Bit of a Stretch Theatre Company will stage the regional premiere of the song cycle Myths and Hymns, written by Adam Guettel. In the work, Guettel uses his musical vocabulary to touch on themes of desire, longing and a search for spiritual understanding, sung from a diverse range of perspectives. The lyrics were inspired by Greek mythology and a 19th Century Presbyterian hymnal. The music seamlessly moves from genre to genre in order to accommodate the broad range of human experience.
Myths and Hymns reflects on humanity's age-old struggle to connect with something or someone greater in search for enlightenment.
Directed by Emma Martinsen with music direction by Wiley DeWeese, the cast features Erin Cressy, Hunter Frederick, Abby Seible, Tamara Siler, Eduardo Tecero and Brad Zimmerman.
Performances are held in the HSPVA Black Box Theater.
