Big Range Dance Festival: Program C

eventdetail

The Big Range Dance Festival features modern and postmodern dance exploring diverse ideas and the theatrical arts. Choreographers are encouraged to experiment with movement invention as they create a personal dance language. This is the eighth year of the festival, which begins June 5 and ends June 19.

The last week of the festival includes dances choreographed by Leslie Scates, Karen Schupp, Erin Reck, Becky Valls and Michelle Garza. Highlights include Valls Unhinged and Reck's Natural Disaster.

In Unhinged, Valls dances solo and while there is no particular theme, she explores her own movement invention and dances unhindered from the burden of translating her movement to other dancers.

Reck's Natural Disaster examines what makes a disaster "natural" such as things caused by nature and not humankind. It includes a solo and two duets and is set to the music of Sufjan Stevens, Billie Jo Spears and Faraualla.

A closing night party including drinks, food and a DJ follows the June 19 performance. If attending the final show, tickets are $7 otherwise they are $10. The party runs from 9:30-11:30 p.m.
