Joybird furniture (headquartered in L.A.) launched as an online retailer in 2014, providing customizable, mid-century inspired furniture to a market in need of an accessible price point. Joybird Houston is now the first showroom dedicated entirely to displaying the array of collections that brand has to offer.
The showroom sits directly across from Empire Cafe and is a great place to plop on a comfy couch after lunch and gaze at artwork. The evening's celebration will act as the grand opening and launch of Joybird Houston’s local artist support program.
The featured artist, Ellen Phillips, is a Houston native who has recently graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art. The collection of works displayed in the showroom, “Paintings to Keep you Company”, teem with palatable abstraction and textured hues of buttery yellow, mint, and creams in mediums such as acrylic, charcoal, plaster, and oil. Pieces range from 7x11” - 60x84” in size and $20-$5,000 in price.
A new furniture store in Montrose may seem to be an unlikely place to find emerging fine art, but the partnership is a wonderful opportunity to add beautiful paintings and furniture to the landscape of our lives.
Enjoy complimentary bites and beverages, as well as a selection of music inspired by the mid-century modern era, on vinyl, spun by Hayden Wright. Attendees are invited to meet the artist, lounge on the furniture, and purchase work from the unique collection.
Ten percent of both art and furniture purchases will be donated to the Houston Area Women's Center. Joybird will be offering an additional 10% off of furniture purchased during the event.
