To kick off Bayou Preservation Association’s 50th anniversary, Bayou Preservation Association and Houstorian are commemorating the day, in 1837, when the packet steamer Laura made it all the way up Buffalo Bayou to Allen’s Landing, proving that Houston could be a navigable port. To celebrate, Bayou Preservation Association and Houstorian are naming Thursday, January 21 “Laura Day.”

Public Services Wine & Whisky will provide cocktails and light bites as attendees mix and mingle in the historic Houston Cotton Exchange Building downtown. Throughout 2016, Bayou Preservation Association will celebrate its 50th year with a series of events including a Student Poetry Contest, the 50th Anniversary Luncheon, the 50th Anniversary Gala Kick Off Party, the 50th Anniversary Gala and the Annual Symposium.
