Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens Lecture: "Welcome Home, George Washington: Mount Vernon's Gardens"

eventdetail
Mount Vernon Ladies' Association

"See to it that you keep it the Home of Washington" was the charge of Ann Pamela Cunningham, founder of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, upon her retirement in 1874. Over the years, people have studied, researched and dug the earth for clues, all helping to make the home of George Washington one of the most accurately restored 18th-century estates in America.

This entertaining look at the gardening world of the first U.S. president explores the beauty, use and importance of Mount Vernon's gardens and landscape, as well as the preservation efforts, with a focus on the recently restored pleasure garden.
