Theater District Houston will host the 22nd Annual Theater District Open Houston. Marking the official launch of the fall performing arts season, the event is a free family-friendly festival that takes place at venues throughout Downtown Houston, including the Alley Theatre (500 Louisiana), Hobby Center for the Performing Arts (800 Bagby), Wortham Theater Center (501 Texas Ave), Jones Hall for the Performing Arts (615 Louisiana) and Bayou Music Center (520 Texas Ave).
Open House features an array of free performances and activities that highlight the best of what’s in store for the upcoming season, with everything from dance to music to theater, alongside exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences. Among the interactive and informative features are backstage tours, live performances, question and answer sessions with performers and more.
Events geared specifically for kids and families include the Houston Symphony Instrument Petting Zoo, Alley Theatre’s Stage Combat demonstrations and more. Capping off the day, the Houston Symphony will perform a 4 p.m. free concert at Jones Hall.
A partial lane closure of Theater District streets will allow guests to walk freely between venues, enjoy outdoor pop-up performances by Young Audiences of Houston artists and spy street artists stationed at each theater as they create murals. “Cool recharge zones” with misters and food trucks will pepper the streets throughout the area. Theater District Trolleys will be available to transport festival-goers wishing to ride rather than walk between each venue.
