Bach Society Houston Chamber Music: Bach's Musical Offering

eventdetail

Bach Society Houston presents artists of Ars Lyrica Houston in a small chamber music setting to play Bach's Musical Offering. In 1747 Frederick the Great, the music-loving Prussian king, summoned Bach to demonstrate his legendary skills at improvisation, presenting him with a subject Frederick had written himself. Later that year, Bach published the Musical Offering, a collection of canons and fugues on the royal theme, dedicating it to the king.

Ars Lyrica Houston presents that masterpiece of chamber music. The players include Colin St. Martin, traverso; Oleg Sulyga, baroque violin; Barrett Sills, baroque violoncello; and Matthew Dirst, harpsichord and director.
