Asia Society Texas will present the opening of Hung Hsien: "Between Worlds," a solo exhibition of the pioneering modern ink artist and Houston resident.
The exhibition celebrates the life and artistic legacy of one of the most important yet underrepresented contributors to the development of modern ink painting. The exhibition will be the artist's first retrospective, surveying a career that spans more than 70 years, from her early years as a fledgling artist in Taiwan to her mature, signature cosmic abstractions.
The opening reception will feature a conversation by the curatorial team of "Between Worlds," featuring Dr. Tiffany Wai-Ying Beres (modern and contemporary Chinese art historian), Dr. Einor Cervone (Associate Curator of Asian Art at the Denver Art Museum), and Dr. B Li (independent researcher), moderated by Dr. Owen Duffy, Nancy C. Allen Curator and Director of Exhibitions.
Following a special welcome by artist Hung Hsien, and the panel discussion, guests will enjoy a reception in the Water Garden Terrace and journey through the exhibition's more than 50 paintings that draw primarily from private collections and the artist's personal archives.
