Sara VanDerBeek’s semi-abstract photographs often depict three-dimensional still-life assemblages — incorporating objects, found images and even her own pictures — that she creates in her studio and then photographs. Some of VanDerBeek’s recent images show architectural details, such as close-ups of decaying windows and foundations that she encountered in New Orleans, Detroit, and her hometown of Baltimore.
